Daniel,

Twitter is interesting for sure. I've almost been on for 2 years and my attitude has changed about it and I've had many great experiences. In the beginning I did not see how it could be great at all. Who cares that much about "what I am doing" especially if it's TMI, or not really that interesting. I followed a few people who were definitely "Too much information" sort of people. Then I met them and realized they were less "nutty" in person and a few of the TMI though were something that I would not share, were truly who the person is / was, so I then enjoyed it more, even if it's something I may not share.

I too will wonder "are they reading this" then days later when i see somone in my network in person. (not a close friend, but we know of eachother) they will talk about or ask me about 'that thing" that they knew I was doing, which they saw via twitter. I often laugh at many things people twitter yet I don't (always) feel the need to @reply "hey that was funny" because some of my followers might not be on a device where they can easily see the @ reply, or sometimes it will be so funny I'll try to play off of it so the other viewers will get some of the original joke.

Also, I'll get replies 1/2 a day later from someone who is checking out my stream and replying to something I consider an "old" post, so there may be a lag. Also twitter (for me) is something I can walk away from not reading for a day, few days, etc and "jump right in"... yes I missed stuff, but the point is NOT to go back and try to get caught up like what you might do with RSS feeds....Just "jump right back in".

@Replies. It's dumb IMO to @danielgreene "ya, that's cool" or "OK" If you ask a question I might try to restate your question in my answer so others will get your Q and my A in one tweet. I'll try to use twitter more as a question asking thing, and a "cool resource" sharing thing instead of just what I'm doing.

Fav's YES you can look up people's fav's. Mine are here:
http://twitter.com/AcmePhoto/favourites

IF you want to see who has fav'ed Your photos go to:
http://favotter.matope.com/en/

How does one keep up w/ tweets, Well I have twhirl or another app running in the other screen and I randomly look @ it when it updates. It might pull in 20-40 updates at a time and if something looks cool, I'll check out links, or reply, but ONLY as I have time. I'll also check some local people's pages manually if I think there might be a networking event, meetup, etc going on and I want to know what / where people are going to be.

I see that you replied said (in your stream) that you replied to my blog post on valleyPR, however you didn't put @acmePhoto so I didn't see that you were talking to me. I will however (maybe once a week) manually go to people's pages (who maybe don't update as much) and see what they are doing, the same as you might do on flickr / facebook.

One thing is to "not care too much" meaning don't sit on twitter all the time, also, feel free to search.twiter.com and look for people with similar interests or to look for problems (is flickr down, etc)

Long post, but maybe you have some info you can apply to how you use twitter.

Later,
Adam N.

Twitter has some major problems, but overall I like it. The @replies that have no substance drive me nuts (and I've been known to do it too on some level). I use it as a mini-blog and treat it as such. I completely understand your adversity to use it.

One of the great things about Twitter is that I can have it feed directly to my website, my facebook status, and a few other places simultaneously. Which could be annoying to my friends that follow me everywhere - but those people are far and few. Most of my friends follow me only on my blog, or only on LJ, or only on facebook, etc.
