ASL “I Love You” sign is now an emoji!

I was thrilled to learn yesterday that the ILY (I Love You) handshape from American Sign Language (ASL) now has its official glyph in Unicode 10.0 Emoji 5.0 character set! This glyph may or may not appear to you now, but soon it will.

Here is the “I love you” gesture emoji:

I’m happy to say I helped bring this about because two years ago I petitioned Unicode to adopt it, and wrote a blog post urging others to petition Unicode to adopt the ILY emoji as well.
